Charles Francis Kinney

Jack Kinney, 70, of 57 Walnut St., Wooden Shoe Village, died Tuesday in the Gladwin Area Hospital. Born in Columbus, Ind., on March 13, 1912, he came to Gladwin County in 1973 when he retired as a meat cutter for Hamady Bros. in Flint. Mr. Kinney served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the Gladwin County VFW Post 7303. He was married to the former Velma Foster in 1954 in Angola, Ind. She preceded him in death in 1978.
Surviving are one son, EN3 Jack on the USS Forrestal in the U.S. Navy; and one sister, Mrs. Christine O'Neill of Indianopolis, Ind. A military funeral was held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Mathews Funeral Home by members of the Gladwin County VFW Post. Burial was in the McClure Cemetery. Loretta Veronica Brady

Loretta V. Shaw, 89, of Kansas City, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007.

A lifelong resident of Kansas City, Mrs. Shaw attended St. James Catholic Grade School and Westport High School.

She began her working career at Fred Harvey's in Union Station. Later, she and her husband, Firth Shaw, owned and operated Shaw Electric Supply Co. in Westport.

Loretta and Firth enjoyed 50 years of marriage and were business partners throughout their lives until Firth passed away in 1990 and Loretta retired from work.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11800 Holmes Road, Kansas City, with burial at Mount Olivet in Raytown.

Friends may call at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Chapel, 10507 Holmes Road, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Mrs. Shaw was a devout and loyal Catholic, a member of the Ladies of Charity and the Rockhurst Circle.

She and Firth raised their four children in St. Elizabeth Parish, where she was a member of the Altar Society and a Cub Scout den mother as well as a parish volunteer. In St. Thomas More Parish, Loretta enjoyed the company of More Friends.

Mrs. Shaw is survived by her sons, Bob Shaw and wife Jeannette of Mt. Vernon; John Shaw and wife Sue of Kansas City; Steve Shaw of Climax Springs, Mo.; and her daughter, Rita Derrington and husband Tom of Kansas City. In addition, she leaves her grandchildren, Cathy Zaremba, Erin Cartland, Brian Shaw, Patrick Shaw, Tom Derrington, Stephen Derrington, J.R. Shaw, Robyn Shaw, and Bridget Shaw, and five great-grandchildren, Stephen, Teddy, Nicholas, Maria and Lauren.
