Christopher Branch Sr.

Christopher Branch was the emigrant to america and settled at "Arrowhattocks" and "Kingsland" in Henrico Co. Va.  He became the founder of the Branch Family in Virginia.  They came to Virginia in the ship "London Merchant" and were among the sixty who survived the indian massacre of March 22, 1622.

"Arrowhattocks" home of Christopher Branch was on the southern side of the James River in Chesterfield County, Va.  On Sept 14, 1636, he patented another 100 acres in said county.  Just before his death, Nov 2, 1681, he confirmed a grant to his son, Thomas for 300 acres land adjoining JOHN BRANCH who is thought to be the youngest son of William Branch.

WILLIAM BRANCH, his son a Protestant fanatic and enthusiast, had son THOMAS, who had
son CHRISTOPHER BRANCH, who was the emigrant to America, and settled at
"Arrowhattocks" and "Kingsland" in HENRICO COUNTY, VA.  He became the founder of the
BRANCH family in VIRGINIA.  Born, it is thought, in KENT, ENGLAND, about 1600 where he
married MARY ? (do not know her maiden name) who came with him to VIRGINIA, in March
1619-20.  He appears on the first census 1623-24, at which time he was living in HENRICO
COUNTY, with one son THOMAS, nine months old, "Att College Land."  They came to
VIRGINIA in the ship "London Merchant" and were among the sixty who survived the Indian
Massacre of March 22, 1622.

"Arrowhattocks," home of CHRISTOPHER BRANCH, was on the southern side of the James

son of WILLIAM BRANCH.  JOHN BRANCH took up land in ELIZABETH CITY COUNTY,
VA., in 1636.  CHRISTOPHER BRANCH the 1st had by MARY ?, his wife who died 1630, only
one son who outlived him, THOMAS of HENRICO COUNTY, VA., born April, 1623.   
2ndTHOMAS BRANCH (1) CHRISTOPHER (1) of HENRICO COUNTY, VA., married
ELIZABETH ?, issue: son THOMAS BRANCH (2),   THOMAS BRANCH (1st) died 1693. 3
THOMAS (2) BRANCH (THOMAS (1) CHRISTOPHER (1) married ELIZABETH ARCHER,
daughter of GEORGE) of HENRICO COUNTY, and died 1728.

CHRISTOPHER BRANCHof CHARLES CITY COUNTY, VA., born 1627 and died 1655.  He
left issue: CHRISTOPHER (2) born 1656, died 1727, married ANNE SHERMAN CROWLEY
(widow of JOHN) and daughter of HENRY CHERMAN of HENRICO; issue HENRY, (2)
MARY married WATER, (3) SISSERAH married ? BASS, (4) BODIENE married THOMAS
CHEATHAM.  CHRISTOPHER BRANCH (1st) in his will, HENRICO COUNTY, VA., June
20,
1678, gave to his son THOMAS BRANCH 540 acres of land called "Kingsland."

2 SAMUEL BRANCH (son of CHRISTOPHER (1) born 1663, died 1700, married URSULA ?

3 BENJAMIN BRANCH of HENRICO, born 1665, (grandson of CHRISTOPHER BRANCH of
"Kingsland") married about 1695, TABITHA OSBORNE (daughter of EDWARD of
HENRICO0
and son BENJAMIN.  BENJAMIN (1) died soon after.  On Aug. 11, 1711, his widow had
married
THOMAS CHEATHAM.

CHRISTOPHER BRANCH (2nd) in his will HENRICO, VA., gave to his daughter MARY
WALTER (Water) a cow, to SISSAREH BASS a red cow, to daughter BODIANE
CHEATHAM
a brown and white cow, no in possession of WILLIAM CHEATHAM, son HENRY proved
January 1, 1728.

THOMAS CHEATHAM was granted land in CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA, 224 acres in
1744.  (Land Book @23, Page 760, RICHMOND, VA)

THOMAS CHEATHAM (son of WILLIAM dec'd) sold to FRANCIS CHEATHAM 60 acres on
Spring Run, Oct. 2, 1753.  (Deed Book 2, Page 68.)

THOMAS CHEATHAM was living in HENRICO CO., VA, October 7, 1677.  Witnessed a deed
on that date.

JOEL CHEATHAM appears on census of 1782 in CHARLOTTE COUNTY, VA, with 7 whites,

blacks.  BERNARD CHEATHAM with 4 whites, 10 blacks.
